21 minutes

It was a Christmas Eve. Fog stuck to the tarmac at Lindbergh field.  Just like every other night was awaiting the arrival of my husband. 7:00 pm, the phone rang; someone was on the other line. “Hello” no answer. “Hello?” again no answer.
The phone beeps, notifying me the mysterious caller has nothing to say. I had an overwhelming feeling of confusion come over me as I put the phone down and went back to roasting chestnuts over an open fire.  7:30 comes around and I hear someone at the door thinking it was my husband I ran to the door and swung it open. To my surprise it was not him, I saw foot prints in the snow leading to the street. Starting to get worried I called my husband and it went right to voice mail; of course. Trying not to think so much about the mysterious things that were happening I started to hang the stockings by the chimney with care. Turning to look out the window I see a group of people walking down the street there is maybe 10 or 12 of them.  “It’s probably nothing.” I tell myself.  It’s finally 8:00 and my husband is pulling into the driveway! I was so excited he was finally home and we could have dinner and watch Christmas movie classics. As we are eating dinner I tell him about all the strange things that happened while he was at work. “It just sounds like some little kids running around in the snow no need to worry.” He said.

Now it’s 9:00 the door bell rings I make my husband go answer it and I fallow behind, he goes to open it I’m peaking around the corner, scared it might be the people that called or run up to the house and then left but got the courage to come back and rob us because they knew we were home? I bet they just want our presents from Santa.  He opens it, “Hello?” “One… Two… Three… We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christ mass, and a happy new year!” Boy do I feel dumb… “See I told you it was nothing.”

A little lost

Ron: And?

Tate: And what?

Ron: I don’t know… you’re the genius that got us into this mess.

Tate: You’re ridiculous. If you had just decided to stay awake with me then maybe we would be there by now!

Ron: AND maybe if you didn’t drive 3 hours in the wrong direction we wouldn’t be in this predicament.

Tate: Wow look at you using big words!

Ron: Forget it you’re not even worth my time.

Tate: Look… I hate being lost.

Ron: Doesn’t everyone?

Tate: Yes I would think so but still…

Ron: Still what?

Tate: If you would have just stayed awake with me…

Ron: OH GOOD BACK TO THAT! Well! It was your turn to drive, and my turn to rest.

Tate: Okay… okay… so we got a bit lost, big deal. What can you do? Nothing… it’s done and over with.

Ron: Not really because it’s dark, I’m cold, hungry, and tired. I thought I would be in a nice warm bed by now but I guess not.

Tate: Shut up…here comes someone!

Ron: Do you know that man? No? Didn’t think so... So why in the world would you…

Tate: Excuse me sir!?

Sir: Leave me alone, don’t talk to me.

Ron: HA! I told you that wouldn’t work.

Tate: you’re just a pessimistic jerk. I don’t see you trying anything to get us out of this mess.

Ron: Yeah because I didn’t get us into this mess. But you’re right. I’ll try something.

Tate: Where are you going?

Ron: you coming or no?

Tate: Well is your plan to leave me here?

Ron: No I’m walking to the gas station up the road…

Tate: Oh…

Ron: Yeah come on smart one… just don’t talk to anyone. Let me do the talking.

Tate: Got it!

Behind Closed Doors

            1, 2, 3 Breathe… 1, 2, 3 Breathe… 1, 2, 3 Breathe… Just don’t look back. But how could you not? Having that unsettling feeling that someone is watching your every move.

Just one more block and everything will be alright.

Okay punch in your code 0 7 1 7, open the door, close the door. Now walk up the stairs. I am at my apartment. Just find your keys. Put the key in the door. Open the door, shut the door. I’m in side why don’t I feel safe?

Creak, creak, creak. What was that? Creak, creak. Someone is in here, I just know it. But how? I know I shut and locked everything, I checked twice. I’ll just get out of bed and check. Someone could have climbed up the fire escape and came in through the window. Just go back to bed your being ridiculous.

Just a few more steps and everything will be alright.

Okay punch in your code 7 1 7 0. I needed to change it. He was in my apartment last night he knew my code, I just know he did. Open the door, close the door. Walk up the stairs. Where did I put my key? I really need to hurry I can hear him coming up the stairs. Okay now quick put the key in the door. Open the door, slam it shut. He’s still watching me I just know it.

BOOM, crash. That sounded like it was right outside my bedroom door. I’m going to just take a peak outside my room. Okay just a peak. How could the picture frame have fallen from the table? He’s in here again. Hello? I know you’re in here. Just leave I don’t know what you want from me. Just shut and lock your door he can’t get you.

Just don’t stop running. Keep going as fast as you can. He won’t catch up.

Okay now punch in your new old code 0 7 1 7. Open the door, shut the door. I feel like I can’t catch my breath I haven’t stopped running. Go up stairs quick! I need to find my keys, I found them. Shit I dropped my keys. Hurry, come on, hurry up! Open the door fast, slam the door shut. How can I keep living like this?

Just take a pill and go to sleep.

Knock, knock, knock. Stop! Just please stop! Knock, knock, knock. Go away! Why can’t this just all go away? The noises, the items breaking as they mysteriously fall, and the people staring they are all watching me. Now I’m shaking, breaking out into a cold sweat. My mind is racing. Make it stop, please just make it stop. Just take more pills. More and, more pills. Okay… now everything is going to stop.

Knock, knock. Come on Juliet open the door! Fine, I am just going to use my spare key then. Juliet? Juliet?!

1, 2, 3 Breathe. 1, 2, 3 Breathe. 1, 2, 3 Breathe. Why is this man pushing on my chest? I don’t understand what's going on. He keeps yelling “Come on! Come on! You can make it just breathe!” Why can I see myself? What’s going on?

All I wanted was to make it stop.

Thoughts (test)

Who the hell are you?

Wow that was a big step down...

Why are you still talking to me?

You know everything I'm hearing is going in one ear and out the other. And if you are going to keep
talking at least speak correctly... "iight"?

my god they were ugly.

Stop staring, take a picture it'll last longer.

YUP you keep blasting that Lil Wayne music and speeding, I'm pretty sure the cop that pulls you over will be real nice.

"Hows it going back there?"

I don't know hows it going up there? I think I'm 3 feet away from you so you should know "how it's going back here."

Everything is good back here, she is doing okay!

"Oh! don't you like this song?"

No. Why would I ever like this song?! The re frame is so stupid and her voice makes me mad.

(Few minutes later)

Hey I just met you and this is crazy but here's my number, so call me maybe.

NO! NO! NO! STOP. STOP. STOP.

"Can you make sure she has her seat belt on?"

I CAN DO IT MY SELF!

Okay, okay...

Now I just have to figure out how to put this buckle into the fastener.

I told them I could do it but now I'm starting to see double...

Okay, here we go...

Shit I missed, I missed again, and AGAIN!

Why can't I do this?

OH YEAH BECAUSE THE STUPID DOCTOR THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO GIVE ME VALIUM!

Do you need help yet?

YOU KNOW WHAT?! Forget it...

60 Seconds... Or Not...

“Brush your teeth in a circular motion for 1 minute” or 15 to 30 minutes. “Make sure you floss really good” Or really, really good. “Use a cap full of mouth wash.” More like a cup full. “It’s okay to drink soda and coffee, just make sure that you brush your teeth after.” Or don’t drink soda and coffee and just brush your teeth anyways. “Would you be interested in whitening gel?” NO! Are you crazy?! I don’t particularly want to ruin my enamel or have my gum line recede... But thanks for asking! “Okay… well I’ll see you in three months Francesca! Just make sure to make an appointment with our receptionist.” Three months yeah right. More like one month. Hello I’d like to make an appointment for one month from today. “Okay, will you need a doctor’s note saying that you are going to be going in late for school?” yes please.

A day at school for me now you would think that I’d go crazy, you know not being able to brush my teeth, right? Wrong! I just casually carry my tooth brush in my bag along with tooth paste, floss, and mouth wash! Every day after lunch I mysteriously disappear. Where do I disappear to you might ask? Well the bathroom to brush my teeth… Surprised? Didn't think so.
